The Pamunkey Woman's Club has been in existence since 1932, her members serving the citizens across Hanover County by offering their time to countless worthy causes and raising money to support many local agencies including fire departments, rescue squads, libraries, the Hanover Adult Center, the Hanover Christmas Mother, Meals On Wheels, the Military Community Assistance Program and awarding scholarships to local students.  In addition, members of the Pamunkey Woman's Club join hands with other club members across the world whose clubs are also a part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs and whose mission is to do all they can to make the world a better place.   Check out our PHOTO GALLERY.

 Club Meetings

The Pamunkey Woman's Club meets the third Monday, September through May, at 7:00 at various locations in the Mechanicsville area, except when otherwise stated in the Yearbook or notified.  The Executive Board meets at the call of the President usually once a year in June.

Membership is open to all women of good character who are in sympathy with the club's objectives.  To learn more about Pamunkey Woman's Club email Debbie Mitchell.

Each year the club publishes a Yearbook.  This is our guide to the who, what, when, and how.  It is full of contact info for leadership and membership.  The club calendar is announced.  Birthdays are recognized.  The club budget is posted.  Bylaws are published.  A Collect for Club Women by Mary Stewart is printed for recitation at each meeting.

Each month before a meeting the club newsletter, Pamunkey Pow Wow, is published for the membership.  An email version of the newsletter is sent out to twenty-one of our online members.

Historic Beginnings

The Pamunkey Woman’s Club was organized on March 16, 1932 and Federated in April 1932.  When many women started working and could not attend the daytime meetings, the Evening Division was organized in 1958.  The Evening Division had its own officers, held separate meetings, but it functioned as an integral part of the Pamunkey Woman’s Club.  The Chairman of the Evening Division was Third Vice President of the Club.

By mutual consent, in May 1976, the Day and Night Divisions of the Pamunkey Woman’s Club became separate clubs with the names, Pamunkey Evening Woman’s Club and Pamunkey Day Woman’s Club.

At the end of 1995 the Pamunkey Day Woman’s Club disbanded and the Pamunkey Evening Woman’s Club, with approval of the Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs (now GFWC Virginia) and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), went back to its roots and is now the Pamunkey Woman’s Club.

Many things have changed about the organization over the last 80 years but one thing remains constant.  The members of this club are special.  They are hard workers, volunteers, and very busy and active women.

Historic Hanover Calendar

The Pamunkey Woman's Club is selling their annual Historic Hanover Calendar for 2016. The cost is $10.00 and all proceeds go to scholarships for three Hanover County high schools. The cover this year highlights the Hanover tomato. It features original pen and ink drawings of Hanover historic homes done by local artists. Let me know if you want one. Great calendar, great cause!   Email Janice Sadler
